The news of ACE-MSA
The Institute of Mathematics and Physical Sciences (IMPS) is a very dynamic environment. schools that are organized inside are very successful. After the memorable ORTASA school held in November 2018, which gathered 75 participants from 11 countries (Benin, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cameroon, Ivory Coast, Ghana, Guinea, Mali, Niger, Nigeria, Senegal and Togo) with experts from South Africa, France, Canada and Brazil, the ACE-MSA organized the School of Data Sciences. This was the first in West Africa. It brought together a total of 90 participants including 52 foreigners. The participants had various profiles: computer scientists, engineers, consultants and students from different research centers, all very interested in Data Science. They had come from different countries, including Benin, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Congo, Kenya, Mali, Niger and Nigeria (majority auditor with a staff of 35). The organizers of the school had three main goals. First, familiarize participants with concepts and techniques related to Data Science, in particular Big Data analysis and machine learning. Secondly, present to participants the systems and tools used in data science and finally, implement best practices. The speakers came from France, Canada, Namibia. At this big meeting, discussion was about Data Engineering with NoSQL, Data Analytics with Spark, machine learning and deep learning. It ended with data science applications at the transport and banking levels.
After this prestigious school, IMPS has awarded the best of the two competitions it organizes each year: the National Championship of Mathematics and Physical Sciences (NCMPS) and the Miss Chemical Physics and Mathematics Contest (Miss-MPC). Thus, on December 21, 2018, in front of parents, friends, teachers, the 18 winners in the category NCMPS and the 42 winners of the Miss-PCM Competition received their prizes. In Champions category, TOSSOU Isidore (CEG KOKOHOUE) won the cup, AHISSOU Massit (CEG Sèkandji) was the first vice-champion, GAGA Crystal (Natitingou Girls High School), the second vice-champion. In Miss-PCM category, Moumouni Fadilath (School Complex Sainte Claire de Pobè) was dedicated Miss. She had first runner-up SINA TERAROUGUI Myziath (Catholic College Hibiscus Parakou) and 2nd runner ADJITORE Rolande (private complex MGR FAROUD).
IMSP has also registered several PhDs including Theoretical Physics and Fundamental and Applied Mathematics including a fellow of CEA-SMA.
In addition, the year 2019 will be very eventful at the IMSP. BIg Data School announces for March, New Trends of Mathematical Methods in Physics and IoT for May and a dozen continuing education courses such as Critallographie XTech Lab, IT Project Management, MikroTik MTCNA etc. In addition, new training offers are open including: Master in Data Science, Master in Mathematical Engineering and Master in Management Information Systems.
About IMPS
The Institute of Mathematics and Physical Sciences (IMSP) is a graduate school of mathematics and physical sciences, mostly for French-speaking African region, located in Benin Republic at the University of Abomey-Calavi. Created in Benin with the willing of the late Professor Abdus Salam, Nobel Prize winner and former Director of the International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP), in Trieste (Italy), to create and support poles of active research centers in developing regions; such as Sub-Saharan Africa, in order to enhance mathematical and physical training as well as researches, to break the scientific isolation of those regions and to reduce brain migration.
The fundamental goal of IMSP is to promote Mathematics, Physics, Computer Sciences and Applications in Africa, mainly in the French-speaking part of Sub-Saharan Africa, by selecting and training talented students for PhD in Mathematics, Physics, Mathematical Physics and Computer Science, in order to build a human resource capacity in Education, Research and Technology. Of five students including two foreigners (1 Cameroonian and 1 Zairian (current DRC)) in 1988, IMPS recruits today in some twenty African countries through focal points that are essentially made up of former students: Benin, Algeria, Burundi, Cameroon, Chad, Congo, Congo Brazza, Burkina-Faso, Ivory-Coast, Ghana, Guinea, Madagascar, Mali, Niger, Nigeria, Rwanda, Senegal, Togo and Uganda.
The Institute of Mathematics and Physical Sciences has been elevated since 1994 to the order of Center of Excellence by the African Mathematical Union (AMU) and is recognized as such by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), the European Society of Mathematics and the commission of the African Union. The faculty consists of permanent professors from the University of Abomey-Calavi, external collaborators, professors in the mathematics and physics departments of the Faculty of Science and Technology and external collaborators from European and American universities. The excellence that has always characterized the Institute of Mathematics and Physical Sciences has earned it the benefit of the African Center for Excellence in Mathematics Sciences and Applications Project (ACE-MSA) funded by the World Bank ($ 8 million). implemented since 19 December 2014.
As an integral part of the 22 institutions supported by the World Bank on behalf of the African Center of Excellence Project, ACE-MSA thus reinforces and diversifies IMSP training by making programs training available to the sub-region and diversified and high-quality research in Master and PhD focused on development challenges in the areas of fundamental mathematics, operations research, computer security, statistics with a particular focus on their applications in industries, in public health and social sciences.

- In four years of execution of the ACE-MSA Project, the Institute of Mathematics and Physical Sciences has made interesting progress:
- An exponential increase (more than 500%) of students in the Master and PhD programs at the IMSP;
- A partnership with the best European and American universities in the field of teaching and research;
- More than 30 missionary teachers of African, European and American descent of great renown welcomed in the context of teaching missions;
- Two specializations of IMSP ( Fundamental Mathematics & Computer Science) accredited by the HCERES;
- Nearly 817 scholarships offered to more deserving students to support their training;
- A rich catalog of practical program that meet international standards; geared towards building the capacity of the staff of the companies and adapted to their needs boosting their growth and predisposing them to important decisions;
- International Schools, Conferences, Scientific Seminars: ORTASA school, Data Science School etc. Big Data, IoT etc.
